THC and CBD are metabolized in the liver by a number of cytochrome P450 isoenzymes, including CYP2C9, CYP2C19, CYP2D6 and CYP3A4. They may be stored for as long as four weeks in the fatty tissues from which they are slowly released at sub-therapeutic levels back into the blood stream and metabolized via the renal and biliary systems. The main primary metabolite of CBD is 7-hydroxy-cannabidiol.

CBD and THC interact with our bodies in a variety of ways. Many cells in the body have what are called cannabinoid receptors, protein molecules on a cell’s surface that react when they come in contact with certain chemical substances. The cells that react with cannabinoids comprise what’s known as the endocannabinoid system. When these receptors are activated, they exert an effect on mood, pain sensation, appetite and other biologic responses.
First, a little background. Industrial hemp was legal in the United States until Congress passed the Marihuana Tax Act in 1937. ("Some of our early presidents grew hemp," notes Sarah Lee Gossett Parrish, a cannabis industry attorney based in Oklahoma.) Nearly 80 years later, the 2014 Farm Bill took the position that states can regulate the production of hemp and, as a result, CBD. Then last year, President Trump signed a new Farm Bill that made it federally legal to grow hemp.
One year before the molecular characterization of THC, another abundant cannabis component, cannabidiol (CBD), had already been identified (Michoulam and Shvo, 1963), whereas other chemically related terpenophenolic compounds, including cannabichromene (CBC) and cannabigerol (CBG), were isolated from Cannabis sativa soon thereafter (Gaoni and Mechoulam, 1964b; Gaoni and Mechoulam, 1966). When it became clear that these natural products are nearly unique to the cannabis plant, or maybe simply because they were first identified from this source, these compounds were collectively named “cannabinoids.” Thus, the name “cannabinoid” indicates any secondary metabolite from various strains of cannabis with biogenetic origin from a terpene, normally geranyl pyrophosphate, and a phenol, i.e., olivetol or olivetolic acid. It is now established that cannabinoids are produced by the plant flowers as their corresponding carboxylic acids, which are then decarboxylated following heating or desiccation. Interestingly, a compound similar to CBG acid, but clearly not directly derived from olivetol, was recently isolated from South African plants of the Helichrysum genus (Lourens et al., 2008). Thus, cannabinoids might not be unique to the cannabis plant, although their biosynthesis in other plants might follow different routes. Furthermore, of all the natural cannabinoids that were initially tested, THC was shown to be the only one responsible for the “recreational” properties induced by the smoking of marijuana in humans. These properties can be described as generally mood and sensory altering effects leading to, among others, euphoria and sedation (Panagis et al., 2008). Later, a definition of THC-like activity was given as the ensemble of “central” pharmacological effects that THC induces in non-human primates, dogs (ataxia), and rodents. In mice, it was proposed that the concomitant induction of: (1) immobility in a square box, (2) catalepsy on a ring, (3) analgesia in the hot plate or tail flick tests, and (4) hypothermia, known as the “tetrad” of tests for “cannabimimetic” activity, would be a good predictor of THC-like pharmacological activity (Martin et al., 1991).
Following a single buccal administration, maximum plasma concentrations of both CBD and THC typically occur within two to four hours. When administered buccally, blood levels of THC and other cannabinoids are lower compared with inhalation of smoked cannabis. The resultant concentrations in the blood are lower than those obtained by inhaling the same dose because absorption is slower, redistribution into fatty tissues is rapid and additionally some of the THC undergoes hepatic first pass metabolism to 11-OH-THC, a psycho-active metabolite.

Thank you for your questions. Marijuana and hemp are two extremely different strains of the same cannabis sativa plant that have been bred over thousands of years to have entirely different purposes. (Hemp is not the male version of the marijuana plant.) They both contain CBD. Hemp only contains CBD whereas marijuana contains CBD and perhaps a hundred or so other chemicals with a variety of functions, such as THC, the molecule that makes people “high”. Any medicine can have different effects on different people. For example, Benadryl makes some people sleepy yet can make others wide-awake. So, it is not inconsistent for a particular medicine to cause a symptom in one person and to help alleviate it in another. So while many people experience relaxation with CBD, so people do experience the “paradoxical” effect of irritability.
Rosenberg, Tsien, Whalley, and Devinsky (2015) have recently reviewed the role of cannabinoids in epilepsy; highlighting proconvulsive effects (e.g., THC) and anticonvulsive effects (e.g., cannabidiol). The mechanisms of action of cannabidiol in epilepsy have also been recently reviewed (Reddy & Golub, 2016). Much work with SCB in epilepsy has focused on WIN55,212-2. WIN55,212-22 potentiated the effects of four antiepileptic drugs (carbamazepine, phenytoin, phenobarbital, and valproate) in mice (Luszczki et al., 2011). However, the authors also caution that impairment of motor coordination, long-term memory, and a reduction of skeletal muscular strength was also seen with these combination treatments. The same group found WIN 55,212-2 in combination with lamotrigine, pregabalin, and topiramate and second- and third-generation anticonvulsants gabapentin, levetiracetam but not lacosamide, oxcarbazepine, pregabalin, and tiagabine to potentiate anticonvulsant effects in mice (Florek-Luszczki et al., 2015; Luszczki, Wlaz, Karwan, Florek-Luszczki, & Czuczwar, 2013).

Synthetic CB1/CB2 receptor agonists are associated with a reduction of infarct size and hypothermia in animal models. CB1 receptor antagonists, however, have also shown a reduction of infarct size. The conflicting results prove the complexity of the ECS; others hypothesize that the CB receptor inhibitors may be targeting nonCB receptors but still producing neuroprotective effects. Studies are also investigating modulation of CB1/CB2 receptor activation with promising results on reducing infarct size with stimulation of CB2 and inhibition of CB1 . CB may also play a beneficial role in post-stroke rehabilitation with studies reporting CB1 and CB2 receptor expression in neural stem and progenitor cells .

despite what you say on canola and soybean oil being healthy i strongly disagree with you after my research on both of them. Canola oil is not really a natural oil it is manufactured oil from rapeseed. “Canola oil is made with a highly unnatural processing method that involves high heat, deodorization and the toxic solvent hexane. A colleague of Mechoulam’s, Marc Feldman at Imperial College, London, tested CBD on mice that had a version of rheumatoid arthritis. He found that CBD reduced the mice’s inflammation by 50% at the right dosage. Cardiologists working with the mice at Hebrew University have found that a dosage of CBD immediately following a heart attack can reduce infarct size by about 66%.

CBD (Cannabidiol) is a potent, non-psychoactive cannabinoid found in hemp oil. It is typically extracted from industrial hemp plants that are naturally high in CBD and other phytochemicals. There are two possible exceptions to this. The first is that some people, for unknown reasons, just react differently to CBD. According to Dr. Chin, about 5% of people say they feel altered after taking CBD. "Usually they're the same people who have side effects from Advil or Tylenol," she says. In theory, getting a false positive on a drug test from CBD oil should be relatively impossible from pure CBD oil containing less than .3 percent THC. Like I mentioned before, cold-pressed oils that are not heat treated in a factory with chemicals are still fragile oils. They will oxidize and become rancid once you cook with them. Studies done on canola oil consumption in farm animals has shown a negative effect on coronary health unless mitigated by the intake of beneficial saturated fats. Another reason why you shouldn’t avoid saturated fats!
