Thank you for your questions. Marijuana and hemp are two extremely different strains of the same cannabis sativa plant that have been bred over thousands of years to have entirely different purposes. (Hemp is not the male version of the marijuana plant.) They both contain CBD. Hemp only contains CBD whereas marijuana contains CBD and perhaps a hundred or so other chemicals with a variety of functions, such as THC, the molecule that makes people “high”. Any medicine can have different effects on different people. For example, Benadryl makes some people sleepy yet can make others wide-awake. So, it is not inconsistent for a particular medicine to cause a symptom in one person and to help alleviate it in another. So while many people experience relaxation with CBD, so people do experience the “paradoxical” effect of irritability.

As for phytocannabinoid-rich hemp oil, due to the presence of the hemp plant’s cannabinoids there are many additional uses and benefits with practically zero side effects. The most common use of this type of hemp oil is for chronic pain management, but many people also use it to treat some symptoms of cancer, among other diseases and conditions. Even the Food and Drug Administration recently approved a new CBD-based prescription medication.

I started with the 500mg tincture to test the product and now I purchase the 3000mg. Its good value and really helps my daily anxiety. The 500mg I had to take every 2 hours but the 3000mg is stronger and lasts me 4-5 hours. I never leave reviews but promised one of the customer service reps I would based on how helpful they were. Company seems legit.

Excessive amounts of omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) and a very high omega-6/omega-3 ratio, as is found in today’s Western diets, promote the pathogenesis of many diseases, including cardiovascular disease, cancer, and inflammatory and autoimmune diseases, whereas increased levels of omega-3 PUFA (a lower omega-6/omega-3 ratio), exert suppressive effects.”
Mr. Chairman, Ms. Chairwoman, and Members of the Senate Drug Caucus, thank you for inviting the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), a component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), to participate in this hearing to share what we know about the biology and the potential therapeutic effects of cannabidiol (CBD), one of the main active chemical compounds found in marijuana. In light of the rapidly evolving interest in the potential use of marijuana and its derivative compounds for medical purposes, it is important to take stock of what we know and do not know about the therapeutic potential of CBD.

My husband was diagnosed with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) when he was 61 years old 4 years ago. The Rilutek (riluzole) did very little to help him. The medical team did even less. His decline was rapid and devastating. His arms weakened first, then his hands and legs. Last year, a family friend told us about Rich Herbs Foundation (RHF) and their successful ALS TREATMENT, we visited their website www. richherbsfoundation. com and ordered their ALS/MND Formula, i am happy to report the treatment effectively treated and reversed his Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), most of the symptoms stopped, he is able to walk and able to ride his treadmill again, he is pretty active now.
This oil is high in vitamin E; one tablespoon contains 28% of a person’s daily recommended intake of the nutrient. It has a high smoke point and doesn’t have a strong flavor, which means it won’t overwhelm a dish. However, sunflower oil contains a lot of omega-6 fatty acids. The body needs them, but omega-6s are thought to be pro-inflammatory, while omega-3s are anti-inflammatory. Consuming too many omega-6s without balancing with omega 3s, could lead to an excess inflammation in the body, so moderation is key.

Olive oil. “Olive oil is my favorite,” says Sara Haas, RD, LDN, a chef in Chicago and spokeswoman for the American Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Made from ripe olives, olive oil is a basic ingredient of the heart-healthy Mediterranean diet and is best for drizzling on salads, pasta, and bread. It’s okay to use the oil for a quick sauté or for baking, but it has a low smoke point (the temperature at which the oil begins to break down and starts to smoke), so it’s not good for deep frying, says Beth Warren, MS, RD, a nutritionist in private practice in New York City and author of Living a Real Life With Real Food.

If a CBD preparation or extract is derived from hemp and contains less than 0.3 percent THC, then it is not considered a controlled substance at the federal level. However, according to a statement by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), it is still unlawful to sell CBD in dietary supplements, and it’s unlawful for companies to market CBD to treat or cure diseases like epilepsy, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, or psychiatric issues like anxiety or depression.

Answering the question “what is CBD oil” would be incomplete without mentioning the many CBD oil benefits. In addition to positively affecting the endocannabinoid system, CBD has been the focus of more than 23,000 published studies about cannabinoids in relation to various medical indications including anxiety, epilepsy, inflammation, cancer and chronic pain to name few. You can even find CBD for pets that is specially formulated to safely allow your pets to experience the natural benefits of CBD. For a more comprehensive look at these and other studies, visit our medical research and education page. Stay up-to-date on the latest developments in CBD and cannabis in our medical marijuana news section.
Prolonged use at high doses has not shown potential for abuse of CBD. In fact, a clinical study published in 2018 found that recreational polydrug users did not show abuse potential with use of CBD. Long-term studies have not evaluated potential changes in hormonal balance or long-term adverse changes in liver function, though prolonged use of CBD enhances metabolism of certain drugs. Stopping CBD oil suddenly has not been associated with withdrawal effects.
Almost everything we use in our diet to prevent or manage health problems has some risk of side effects, and hemp oil is no exception. Firstly it is important to note, however, that negative side effects of hemp oil are rare and some only occur in extreme cases, they can also be considered minor in comparison to the side effect of pharmaceuticals. To date, there have been no reported cases of toxicity from the ingestion of hemp seed oil.
It is important to note that NIDA’s mission is focused on drug abuse; studies related to the therapeutic effects of CBD in other areas would be funded by the Institute or Center responsible for that program area. For example, studies related to epilepsy will likely be funded by the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke or by the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, while studies related to schizophrenia will likely be funded by the National Institute on Mental Health.
According to Sasson, "avocado oil is the new kid on the block." Much like coconut oil, it is beloved by the clean-eating community and surrounded by that same health food halo. However, unlike coconut oil, it doesn't have quite as much saturated fat (only 1.6 grams per tablespoon). It is, however, packed with heart-healthy monounsaturated fats, and it has a high smoke point (375 to 400 degrees F) and neutral flavor without being chemically processed like canola and vegetable oil. It's a bit more expensive than those more processed oils, but if you're interested in avoiding refined foods, want that high smoke point, and don't mind the splurge, then this is a great alternative.
The term “vegetable oil” is used to refer to any oil that comes from plant sources, and the healthfulness of a vegetable oil depends on its source and what it’s used for. Most vegetable oils on the market are a blend of canola, corn, soybean, safflower, palm and sunflower oils. “Generally I tell people to use olive oil whenever you can instead of a corn or a soybean oil,” says Weinandy. They’re not necessarily bad for you, she says, “but you can get so much more benefit from olive oil.”
My sister has convinced me that I should live a more healthy lifestyle and I think that hemp oil would be a great contributor to that. Your information that hemp oil contains omega fatty acids and proteins and can be used as a cooking substitute only convinces me more. I will start looking into purchasing some pure hemp oil so that I can improve my skin and live a more healthy life.
Bottom line if you just want some hemp oil which does have beneficial oils and are willing to spend 20 - 30 dollars on a 2 oz bottle of vitamin E then these products are for you. If you want CBD oil that contains the cannabinoids that are recognized for their ability to reduce anxiety, help you focus on tasks at hand, increase appetite, provide pain relief, and the list goes on then I would recommend you look at producers located in Colorado who are processing hemp oil for this actual purpose.
CBD may offer an option for treating different types of chronic pain. A study from the European Journal of Pain showed, using an animal model, CBD applied on the skin could help lower pain and inflammation due to arthritis. Another study demonstrated the mechanism by which CBD inhibits inflammatory and neuropathic pain, two of the most difficult types of chronic pain to treat. More study in humans is needed in this area to substantiate the claims of CBD proponents about pain control.

To Nancy G…. I’m not an oil expert, but Oleumm8 makes part of its health claim based on a lower ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids, compared with the average American diet. Some studies suggest that lowering the ratio of O6 to O3 could be healthy. But, again, from a scientific point of view, this is still an unproven hypothesis. Many nutrition authorities suggest raising your omega-3 intake by consuming two or more fish meals a week.
I have been diagnosed with endometriosis and several bulging disk. The amount of pain from both because of all the inflammation had been unbearable. Pain meds aleve and several medications that were supposed to help failed me. I went from not doing anything to waking up in the morning like a new woman I never thought this would work Im in tears about how great I feel. Give it a try my family is in complete disbelief that I went from a 97 year old woman their description lol to my 32 yr old self. Life changing is TRUE
despite what you say on canola and soybean oil being healthy i strongly disagree with you after my research on both of them. Canola oil is not really a natural oil it is manufactured oil from rapeseed. “Canola oil is made with a highly unnatural processing method that involves high heat, deodorization and the toxic solvent hexane. Significant amounts of trans fats are formed during this process.” also “One study analyzed canola and soybean oils found on store shelves in the U.S. They found that 0.56% to 4.2% of the fatty acids in them were toxic trans fats “
There are likely very complex relationships also occurring between various Cannabinoids in Cannabis that may lead to certain medical efficacy. That is important to remember when considering the consumption of products that contain Cannabinoids. There is an attractiveness to isolating a specific chemical, researching it, patenting synthetic derivatives, and marketing specific drugs. That said, the relationships are complex, will likely take years to understand, and many patients I’ve met appear to find the most medical benefit from a diverse group of Cannabinoids whose interactions are not particularly well understand, but the results are hard to argue with.
Different cannabis plants are bred to contain different amounts of CBD and/or THC. The plants we know as marijuana are bred specifically to contain CBD and/or THC. However, “the form of the cannabis plant we know as hemp is bred to naturally not contain appreciable amounts of THC, which is the psychoactive compound in the plant people are after when they want a high,” explains Leslie Mendoza Temple, M.D., A.B.O.I.M., medical director of NorthShore University HealthSystem’s Integrative Medicine Program. THC-free hemp plants are referred to as ‘industrial hemp.’
• Speaking of which: Has it been third-party tested? Nearly every expert Health spoke to agreed that your CBD products should be tested by a third party to confirm the label's accuracy. This is a real concern in the industry—take the 2017 Journal of the American Medical Association study, for example, which tested 84 CBD products and found that 26% contained lower doses than stated on the bottle. Look for a quality assurance stamp or certificate of analysis from a third party (aka not the actual brand) or check the retailer's website if you don't see it on the product's label.
The lesson here: Cooking oils play a massive role in our overall health, which means choosing healthy oils is a bright idea if you expect to continue living for as long as humanly possible. To help us all make better choices, I asked Dana Hunnes, senior dietitian at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center and my go-to source for all nutritional queries, to help me rank every popular cooking oil by how healthy they are.
