A condition in which a transplant attacks the body (Graft-versus-host disease (GVHD)). Graft-versus-host disease is a complication that can occur after a bone marrow transplant. In people with this condition, donor cells attack the person's own cells. Early research shows that taking cannabidiol daily starting 7 days before bone marrow transplant and continuing for 30 days after transplant can extend the time it takes for a person to develop GVHD.

Because it’s nearly impossible to extract only CBD from the cannabis plant, athletes should assume that CBD products are probably mixtures of CBD and other prohibited cannabinoids, including THC, CBN, CBG, etc. Depending on whether the CBD was extracted from a high-THC plant (more than 0.3% THC, or marijuana) or a low-THC plant (less than 0.3 percent or hemp), different CBD preparations could have differing levels of THC.
I have a dog that was diagnosed with bone cancer. I wasn't going to put an old dog through amputation and chemo, so I opted for comfort care, with the caution from the vet that pain meds would have to be increased until they no longer were able to keep the pain in control and he would have to be euthanized soon. At the recommendation of a friend that I try adding the Hemp Oil to his regimen to see if it helped. Within a day, I started seeing a difference in his behavior, with more alertness and improved movement. In every incidence, they report significant relief and have been able to reduce or eliminate the prescription drugs. People can sometimes convince themselves something is working by the power of their expectation, even when it isn't (placebo effect), but animals aren't so easily fooled. My only concern is that in the few months I have been purchasing this product the price increased substantially, although it is still reasonable. I just hope it doesn't become so popular that it becomes out of reach for those of us with modest incomes.
Another notable study conducted by Mechoulam was done on mice bred to have a version of type-1 diabetes. The diabetes was designed to manifest right around 14 weeks, so the mice were treated with CBD for the first 7 weeks of their life and then again in another 7 weeks. He concluded that only 30% had developed diabetes compared to the 90-100% given the placebo.

Lisa Hamilton, a jeweler and doula in Brooklyn, NY, knows about the side effects. She recently tried CBD for the shoulder pain that plagued her five years after an accident. Rosenberg, Tsien, Whalley, and Devinsky (2015) have recently reviewed the role of cannabinoids in epilepsy; highlighting proconvulsive effects (e.g., THC) and anticonvulsive effects (e.g., cannabidiol). WIN55,212-22 potentiated the effects of four antiepileptic drugs (carbamazepine, phenytoin, phenobarbital, and valproate) in mice (Luszczki et al., 2011). However, the authors also caution that impairment of motor coordination, long-term memory, and a reduction of skeletal muscular strength was also seen with these combination treatments. The same group found WIN 55,212-2 in combination with lamotrigine, pregabalin, and topiramate and second- and third-generation anticonvulsants gabapentin, levetiracetam but not lacosamide, oxcarbazepine, pregabalin, and tiagabine to potentiate anticonvulsant effects in mice (Florek-Luszczki et al., 2015; Luszczki, Wlaz, Karwan, Florek-Luszczki, & Czuczwar, 2013).

Oh, olive oil — let us count the ways we adore you, including the benefits in a Mediterranean diet. Populations from that region have longer life expectancies and lower risks of heart disease, high blood pressure and stroke, compared with North Americans and Northern Europeans. Monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs) are considered a healthy dietary fat, as opposed to saturated and trans fats.
Extensive studies have demonstrated that many common illnesses are related to deficiencies or imbalances of specific fatty acids in the body. Symptoms are often related to a lack of Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids and their derivatives, the postaglandins. Most people eating a healthful diet, one that includes a balanced ratio of essential fatty acids, also have healthy skin and a strong immune system. Yet some individuals may experience shortages in specific fatty acids or their metabolites due to dysfunctional enzyme systems or other inhibitions in their metabolic pathways caused by genetic, immune-system-related, or even environmental factors. Given CBD’s reputation as a popular, artisanal remedy, one would think that Epidiolex would command a lot of “off label” attention. Canola oil is valuable for its neutral flavor and high smoke point, ultimately reducing the likelihood of harsh compound creation at high heat. Though it contains lesser amounts of antioxidants compared to olive oil, it contains alpha-linolenic acid, a kind of omega-3 fatty acid. One year before the molecular characterization of THC, another abundant cannabis component, cannabidiol (CBD), had already been identified (Michoulam and Shvo, 1963), whereas other chemically related terpenophenolic compounds, including cannabichromene (CBC) and cannabigerol (CBG), were isolated from Cannabis sativa soon thereafter (Gaoni and Mechoulam, 1964b; Gaoni and Mechoulam, 1966). When it became clear that these natural products are nearly unique to the cannabis plant, or maybe simply because they were first identified from this source, these compounds were collectively named “cannabinoids.” Thus, the name “cannabinoid” indicates any secondary metabolite from various strains of cannabis with biogenetic origin from a terpene, normally geranyl pyrophosphate, and a phenol, i.e., olivetol or olivetolic acid. It is now established that cannabinoids are produced by the plant flowers as their corresponding carboxylic acids, which are then decarboxylated following heating or desiccation. Interestingly, a compound similar to CBG acid, but clearly not directly derived from olivetol, was recently isolated from South African plants of the Helichrysum genus (Lourens et al., 2008). Thus, cannabinoids might not be unique to the cannabis plant, although their biosynthesis in other plants might follow different routes. Furthermore, of all the natural cannabinoids that were initially tested, THC was shown to be the only one responsible for the “recreational” properties induced by the smoking of marijuana in humans. These properties can be described as generally mood and sensory altering effects leading to, among others, euphoria and sedation (Panagis et al., 2008). Later, a definition of THC-like activity was given as the ensemble of “central” pharmacological effects that THC induces in non-human primates, dogs (ataxia), and rodents. In mice, it was proposed that the concomitant induction of: (1) immobility in a square box, (2) catalepsy on a ring, (3) analgesia in the hot plate or tail flick tests, and (4) hypothermia, known as the “tetrad” of tests for “cannabimimetic” activity, would be a good predictor of THC-like pharmacological activity (Martin et al., 1991).

THC’s intoxicating powers come from its ability to mimic anandamide, an endocannabinoid or naturally occurring mood-altering substance in the body that binds to CB1 receptors in the brain and is associated with having a rosy disposition. Cannabidiol has been found to act as an antagonist of GPR55, a G protein-coupled receptor and putative cannabinoid receptor that is expressed in the caudate nucleus and putamen in the brain. It has also been found to act as an inverse agonist of GPR3, GPR6, and GPR12.
